1) WHAT'S THE BASIC DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE R5 AND R7?

The R5 will control 5 devices and store up to 7 macros containing 20 steps each, while the R7 will control 7 devices and store up to 9 macros containing 20 steps each.

2) WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO PROGRAM MY R5?

There are three ways to program your remote:
A) The Pre-Programmed Code Method (page 7 in manual)
B) The Auto-Search Method (page 11 in manual)
C) The Learning Method (page 13 in manual)

The Pre-Programmed Code Method allows you to set up all the buttons at once by using the code tables in the back of the manual, so it’s the easiest of the three methods. The Auto-Search Method scans through all the codes in the remote control, one at a time. The Learning Method allows you to transfer functions from your old remote, one button at a time.

3) WHAT IS A CODE? WHERE CAN I GET A LISTING OF THE CODES FOR MY DEVICES?

A code is a three digit number you enter into your remote that will control a particular device. Your R5 comes with thousands of built –in pre-programmed codes. These codes are located in the back of your manual and are categorized by device type and brand name.

4) HOW DO I KNOW WHEN I HAVE THE CORRECT CODE?

If the 3-digit code you punch in is the correct one, the device you are trying to program will turn off. Don’t forget to point the remote at the device when entering code numbers.

5) WHAT IF I CAN’T FIND A CODE IN THE CODE TABLES THAT WILL TURNS MY DEVICE OFF?

If none of the codes in the manual powered off your device, you can try the Auto-Search Method or Learning Method.

6) I FOUND A CODE THAT WILL POWER MY DEVICE OFF BUT DO NOTHING ELSE, WHAT DO I DO?

Try the rest of the codes listed for that device. Find the code that gives you the most functionality and then try using the Learning method to fill in the gaps.

7) WHY AM I HAVING TROUBLE LEARNING FROM OTHER REMOTES?

Make sure both remotes have brand new batteries while learning, this will increase signal strength and give you the best learning results. If you continue having trouble, you can try varying the distance between the remotes when learning. Don’t forget to save your learned codes. The device button your learning codes under will blink three times when you successfully save your learned codes.

8) WHAT IS MACROPOWER?

Macropower is a programming feature that allows you to do a sequence of commands with the push of a button. For example, rather than cycling through your devices to power them up one by one, the R5 allows you to tie all of your power on commands to one button. The Power On, System Off or any of the device buttons can be programmed with Macropower.

9) MY MACRO POWER FUNCTIONS ARE NOT WORKING, WHAT DO I DO?

First, verify that the commands you are entering into a Macropower sequence work standalone. If they don’t, you need to find the proper codes. If they do, you can try to erase the Macropower button and try to program it again.

10) WHAT IS THE MEMORY LIMIT ON THE R5?

The R5 has a Non -Volatile flash memory up to 64 Kbytes.

11) IF I TAKE THE BATTERIES OUT, WILL I LOSE MY PROGRAMING?

Since the R5 has a Non-Volatile flash memory, it can retain it’s programming for up to 10 years, even without batteries.

12) HOW DO I KNOW WHEN MY MEMORY IS FULL?

The R5 can store up to 160 learned commands at standard frequencies (15 kHz to 100 kHz). One indication of reaching the maximum memory capacity is the inability to teach the R5 commands.

13) I USED THE AUTO-SEARCH METHOD TO PROGRAM A COMPONENT, HOW DO I TELL WHICH CODE NUMBER IT IS?

You can identify a code number you found with the Auto-Search method by pressing the desired component button and the SELECT button simultaneously for three seconds until the component light turns on. Then press the Info button and count the number of blinks. That is the first number. After a short pause, the component light will blink to indicate the second number, and then pause again to blink in order to indicate the third number. Ten blinks will indicate the number zero.

14) CAN I RESET MY REMOTE TO FACTORY DEFAULT?

Yes you can do so by pressing TV and RECORD simultaneously for five seconds until the SAT/CABLE component LED light blinks five times. All information added to the remote will be erased.

15) I LOST MY MANUAL, HOW DO I GET A NEW ONE?

You can obtain a new R5 manual directly from our website. It is available for download as a PDF (portable document format) file.
